The writer of the show that discusses not having read the books does so in his podcast episode. However, it was not factually accurate to say that. He hasn’t read ALL the books. He read a few to his daughter. Rachael maintains that that is a weird thing to say with your whole chest without saying you’re about to do a read through, however.
